Forward 🇫🇮Joonas Kemppainen has announced his retirement from professional ice hockey at the age of 36.
Kemppainen scored 5 (2+3) points in 44 NHL games with the Boston Bruins 🇺🇸 during the 2015-16 season. He also recorded 264 (105+159) points in 657 career games with Porin Ässät 🇫🇮, Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho 🇫🇮, and Oulun Kärpät 🇫🇮 in Liiga; as well as scoring 195 (98+97) points in 379 games with Sibir Novosibirsk 🇷🇺, Salavat Yulaev Ufa 🇷🇺, and SKA St. Petersburg 🇷🇺 in the KHL. Kemppainen won Liiga titles with Kärpät in 2014 and 2015.
Internationally, Kemppainen scored 16 (7+9) points in 23 games with Finland 🇫🇮 at the World Championship (2015, 2017) and Olympics (2018). He also participated at the U18 World Championship (2005, 2006) and World Junior Championship (2008).

They’ve got to go to the world championships and prove themselves and play for their country. We’ve got to start winning that tournament. And I think that’s where, you know, Canada, those guys go and they play. And that’s where it starts. Pride for your country. Pride for the flag. Putting that crest on and going out for a game is just an unbelievable feeling. This grew the game really well, but I hope it pushes guys to want a piece of this.”

The 16-year-old currently plays for the Bangkok Warriors 🇹🇭 in Thailand, with the Malaysian U18 National Team 🇲🇾 internationally, and also with various clubs teams in Asia 🌏 for regional tournaments.

Al Ajmi scored 102 (51+51) points in 72 games with Kuwait 🇰🇼 since making his debut the national team at the 1999 Asian Winter Games. He helped his country win gold medals at the Challenge Cup of Asia Division 1 in 2015 and 2017, later winning a historic bronze medal at the 2023 World Championship Division 4.
Al Ajmi, who most recently scored 27 (6+21) points in 20 games with the Kuwait Warriors 🇰🇼 during the 2023-24 season, is a 7-time Kuwait Ice Hockey League champion.
